Problems
Audio Issues
Audio is completely garbled with OpenAL, use any other. Refer issue 10704. Cubeb is default since 5.0-10192
Pixel Stretch
On both backends, some textures in the cutscenes (e.g. the skybox during the New Game intro) will have a pixel stretch effect that corresponds to the cutscene camera movement. Changing the External Frame Buffer to 'Real' seems to fix this. Fixed with Hybrid XFB in 5.0-5874.
Cutscene Border Glitches
Cutscene borders have large artifacts at the bottom. Fixed by an unknown revision prior to 5.0-6004.
Configuration
No configuration changes are known to affect compatibility for this title.

4.0-3260 | Windows 7 | AMD Phenom II X4 955 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 | Minor graphic and audio problems. Cutscene borders are slightly glitchy and audio skips intermittently. | Net_Bastard |
4.0-3471 | Windows 7 | AMD Phenom II X4 955 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 | Minor graphic and audio problems. Still very playable and better than an actual N64 emulator. | Net_Bastard |
5.0-6004 | Windows 10 | Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.5Ghz | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870 x2 | Didn't play extensively, but only remaining issue seems to be with OpenAL audio. | Kolano |

Game Description & Reviews:
OverviewThe Crystal Shards marked Kirby's first and last platforming appearance for the Nintendo 64. The game was notable because it let Kirby swallow two enemies and combine their powers for crazy results.
LeftyGuitar rates this game: 3/5Kirby 64 the Crystal Shards is a action/platform game for the N64. You play as Kirby. You can copy enemies abilities and use them as your own. You will go through many levels and are on a quest to defeat the Dark Matter. This kirby game is in 3D. The game is bright and colorful. The sound is good. The controls feel a little stiff, but nothing major. Overall Kirby 64 is a decent Kirby game.
Nevetoss rates this game: 4/5Once again the universe is in danger and once again it's up to a pink little puffball to save everyone. This Kirby title is just as bright and cheery as his other adventures, except that unlike most of his adventures, this one is portrayed in full 3D graphics. With plenty of challenging levels, unique gameplay, and a constant barrage of cuteness, this title is definately worth anyone's attention, no matter what their level of maturity may be.
Vince says:The first (and only) Kirby game for the N64, Crystal Shards delivers with excellent gameplay, a good soundtrack, and the very cool ability to combine copy powers to create new ones.
Mystics Apprentice rates this game: 5/5I was so excited to see a Kirby game finally being made for the Nintendo 64 and highly anticipated it's release. I went out and bought it the first day it came out, tried it, and loved it!
It certainly lived up to it's expectations and hype. It reminds me very much of Kirby's Dreamland for the SNES, only with new and improved graphics and characters. The story is adorable, and the gameplay is awesome! Like any Kirby game, you have the ability to inhale creatures and use their techniques. But unlike all of the previous kirby games, this copy technique has been enhanced - you can now inhale and master two abilities instead of one! For instance, you can inhale two fire creatures and get a mega fire ability, or try combining fire with rock and get something entirely different! It's new and exciting to try out different twists and is definitely an improvement to the game.
The difficulty level on this game is relatively moderate. Nothing was easy as pie or insanely difficult, but fell somewhere in between. The first levels were easy, and the last ones were challenging. Just as it should be. Some of the boss fights I'll admit were a bit tougher than I would've preferred, but they weren't impossible.
Although I love Kirby Superstar, this game competes with it very well!

This game is one I found through blockbuster game rentals and the minute I played it I felt the need to buy it ASAP! The idea is entirely original and on the level of Kirby Superstar (snes). The main element that pulls you in would definitely be the mix n' match system, not only could you stack electricity with electricity and pretend your magneto but you could easily mix it with the rock power instead and bam! you got your own magnetic pull hurling a rock everywhere killing whatever it hits!! or become a fridge (electricity + ice) and binge on yourself. Play this and see what you missed out on for turning down this amazing game's plush design.
